Upon
checking in and scoping out Chartres, we had a few hours before meeting the
tour group. We were kinda hungry and dinner wasn't going to be till 7pm.
Lucky I saved the receipt and see that two orders of
Nicoise
salad was ordered by the ladies and the gents had a formule meal....the
Fraicheur, which included a salade au choix (choice of salad) and either a
galette or a crepe au choix (choice of crepe). I chose the
Cesar
salad and the
Pommeraie
crepe. Second
crepe
with ice cream in France. Was not a fan of the melting ice cream.
In addition to finishing off my meal, I finished off
Marlene's salad.....way too much food for her? Also not liking the
horseradish in the salad.
The
first of many group dinners took us to a quaint restaurant. We got to
sit by the back wall. Probably should should have taken more pics, but
the only one I too was the main course,
chicken with potatoes and a sliver of lettuce sliver. There was also
a pea soup appetizer. Alas no documentation of a dessert.
The
food was, as my kid might say, MEH. It was OK , but it was not special.
The pea soup was a bit better than the chicken dish as far as taste goes.
I
couldn't remember this place until I checked with Michael. It then came
back to me. This is the restaurant where I had just one more crepe, and
probably my last ever. My foolishness came to me when I decided to get
the special of the day at a creperie. If memory serves (...and it often
doesn't....that's why I began the trip writing things down. Now I know
why Todd took the time out to document "everything".).
Meal included, from what I wrote, a crepe
with salad,
prosciutto and baked apples. The odd additon was the dessert touted as
"rocket ice cream". It was also known as arugula ice
cream.....one of the most vile tasting ice cream I've ever eaten......Marlene
had a different opinion as she polished it off and liked it. I did
not get a pic of the actual food ordered, but I did take a snapshot of the
menu listing.
We might have run out of things to do in Chartres as we tried to get into
Serpente before the dinner chef got in. We ended up ordering
ice cream and as soon as we were done, we were able to order ouir dinner meal.
The party oredered
salads, but not NIcoise. Being different I order what
was billed as "Andouillette (5A) « maison Darmigny » sauce moutarde à l’ancienne, haricots verts frais"
(an intestine sausage with a mustard sauce). You could tell it was "home
made", but it was perhaps one of the most tastiest sausage I've had.
One just had to get used to the fact it did not look like ground meat.
