Unlike
other rest stops, the luxury of having a half hour to take in a meal was nice.
I opted for a full meal from the
cafeteria
line. I selected the Sauté d'agneau (lamb stew) as it looked like the best deal.
Coupled with poêlée de légumes (stir fried zuchinni), it was a very
enjoyable
meal. I used a bottle of V-8 like vegetable juice purchased at the
Casino in Sarlat I had saved up for my beverage. That coupled with an
apple
pastry dessert rounded out the meal. Best stew consumed in
France.
Not
to say that I though casoulet was not a good pick for the main course at the
group dinner, but it did receive a lot more hype than it deserved.
Putting kernels of corn in
the salad was a nice touch as I had not had any corn thus far during the
trip.
The casoulet could have been better presented if served in a soup bowl.
And while I was privy to seconds, the first serving could have been doubled
of what I initially received. If I had an option to choose between two
plats, I migh not have gone with the casoulet depending what was
offered....like a juicy steak perhaps?
I thought
the desert
was a bit on the dry side and wondered if the reason for the whipped cream
placed on the side of the dessert vice on top was done for esthetics.
A scoop of ice cream would have been my choice on the side vice the whipped
cream.
