Our
second group lunch was held on the grounds of the winery. We were
treated to
beef stew over rice which was preceded by a
garden salad.
House wines and water served as avaialble beverage.
Cheese and a
pastry was served as a dessert.
The meal in itself was quite
satisfying, although the pastry was a bit dry. I would have preferred
to substitute the cheese and pastry with more of the stew.
I
did not want to eat alone in an Arles restaurant even though it would be for
a dinner, so I simply caved in by fowllowing our party and had a meal to go
from the local supermarket. Unfortunately when shopping at a
supermarket, the only appealing food would be sandwiches and fruit.
For me it would be a tuna
sandwich. For Marlene it was
taboule. We shared
bananas, "grappe tomate"
(tomatoes) and bottled water.
We dined in our spacious room.
Upon returning from the Pont du Gard, we weren't really in the mood to dine
out for lunch and actually gave up on restaurant dining by buying groceries from the supermarket.
I did enjoy a cherry Coke,
apple sauce and a pasta salad.
Marlene enjoyed "tapenade
verte" spread over a baguette.
Again we dined in our spacious
room
The restaurant was a bit busy in the back as we sat just outside of the
kitchen entrance.where the bread was cut. The food presentation was
nice and different. I had the
pea soup to start and Marlene had the
salad. The salad was not big deal but the soup was not what I
expected in a pea soup. Maybe it was because of the drizzling and the
egg. The taste was truly unique. The plat was
fish for Marlene and
pork for me. The pork was tender but not as moist as it could be.
The fish was covered. Marlene said it was OK. The desert......strawberry
shortcake with ice cream maybe? Guess it didn't stand out.
What did stand out was when Toni indicated a beverage other than water or
wine was included with the meal. I ordered a
Coke....made
the meal for me.
